Located on the Smoky Hill River in central Kansas approximately 30 miles southwest of Salina. Kanopolis Lake is one of the oldest lakes in Kansas surrounded be vast open prairie. The area offers many recreational opportunities as well as fishing and hunting. A variety of game animals such as pheasant, quail, prairie chicken, whitetail, turkey, waterfowl, rabbit and squirrel can be found here. Venango campground offers 216 campsites, 56 with electric hookups. Other amenities include a dump station, shower building, boat ramp, beach, playground, primitive group camp area with shelter house, picnic shelters, ATV area and nature trail.
Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. This campground requires a 2 day minimum stay on weekends. This campground requires a 3 day minimum stay on holiday weekends. The campground is open with full facilities 1 May - 30 Sept and sites are $10 - $16/night. An attendant is on duty during this time. There is a $4.00 per night utility fee at sites with electrical hookups 1 Oct -30 Apr. Additional information can also be obtained by calling the Kanopolis Project Office at (785) 546-2294. Directions: From Salina, KS: Take Hwy 140 19 mi W to Hwy 141. Travel 12 mi S on 141, then 1/2 mi west on paved road, look for signs to the park.
