General Information

Description - The Cimarron National Grassland provides access to some remote backcountry that promises interesting geological, historical and cultural sites. Reminders of ancient life that existed in the area, both reptilian and Homo sapiens, pervade the grassland. Solitude is guaranteed in most areas of the grasslands.

Recreation - Several areas of the grassland are open for various recreational uses. Hiking, mountain biking, educational activities, viewing historical sites, scenic driving, horseback riding and picnicking are among the recreation opportunities to be enjoyed in the region.

Location - The Cimarron National Grassland is located in southwestern Kansas.

Kansas - This state was named for a native American tribe that lived in the area when European settlement began. Traveling through Kansas the landscape looks deceivingly homogeneous, but a variety of landforms exist within its borders.
Pike and San Isabel National Forests - The Pike San Isabel National Forest is an administrative compact between the two forests southeast of the Continental Divide in Colorado.
