Description
- The Mt. Hough Ranger District has many opportunities for recreation. The Antelope Lake and the Bucks lake Recreation Areas offer many activities. The Feather River Canyon area is another area with many activities. Silver Lake, Snake Lake and many other lakes provide areas for fishing, boating, hiking and camping.
Recreation - The Mt. Hough Ranger District in the Plumas National Forest offers recreationists a wide variety of outdoor experiences including camping, picnicking, fishing, waterskiing, swimming, boating, hunting, hiking, sightseeing, and winter sports such as snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Climate - The Plumas generally experiences warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters. Weather can change rapidly during all seasons of the year. Elevation plays a major role in temperature and precipitation. This precipitation falls mainly from October through April. At higher elevations, it comes mostly in the form of snow. Clouds can build up during the summer to produce thunderstorm activity. It is wise to pack for any season with clothing that can be "layered", ready to peel off or add on as the thermometer dictates. The Mt. Hough Ranger District is located at the northern end of the Plumas National Forest in Northern California. It lies south of Lake Alamor, around the towns of Quincy and Greenville. The northern border of this District border the Lassen National Forest.
