Description - The McKenzie Ranger District has 13 campgrounds from which to explore the Willamette National Forest. These campgrounds access many of the 18 trails that cross this district. There are 6 Day Use Areas to grill, play or enjoy a picnic from.
Attractions
- Available trails in this District are the Clear Lake Trail, the Deer Butte Trail, the Foley Ridge Trail and the Lava River National Recreation Trail. The McKenzie River National Recreation Trail is a very popular trail in the area. For camping you can camp at Limberlost Campground, Olallie Campground, McKenzie Bridge Campground or Trailbridge Campground. These and several other campgrounds provide access to may trails throughout the Ranger District. For picnicking and other day use activities head to Big Lake Day Use Area, Clear Lake Day Use Area or Ice Cap Creek Day Use Area. Sites to see in the area are Big Lake, Clear Lake, Koosah Falls, the McKenzie and Lava Rivers and Rainbow Fall.
Recreation - This Ranger District offers, hiking, mountain biking, viewing wildlife and scenery, picnicking, camping and scenic byways Climate - Elevations on the Forest range from about 1,500 feet above sea level to 10,495 feet at the snowcapped top of Mt. Jefferson, Oregon's second highest peak. Climate on the Willamette changes with elevation. The area receives a high amount of precipitation. Much of the precipitation comes from October to April in the form of rain at the low elevations and as wet heavy snow in the higher elevations. Although snow is possible in the lowest elevations, it is infrequent. Late spring, summer and early autumn tend to bring clear, sunny days with moderate temperatures. Location -
The McKenzie Ranger District is located in the central western region of the Willamette National Forest. Salem is located approximately 60 miles to the northwest.
