Description
- New Castle Ranger District offers historic sights from the Civil War era, open forests, wetlands and interesting rock outcroppings. The area also has a very popular all-terrain vehicle use trail and a few trails that are multi-use allowing horseback riders, mountain bikers and hikers.
Recreation - Blacksburg, Virginia is just south of this district and is home to Virginia Tech. There are numerous shopping, restaurant and cultural opportunities. Climate - Virginia generally has mild winters and warm humid summers. The mountainous Blue Ridge area has cold winter months with temperatures ranging from 36 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius) and dropping below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 Celsius). The state's summer temperatures have little variation. The summer mountainous Blue Ridge temperatures range from below 74 degrees Fahrenheit (23 Celsius) to 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius). The New Castle Ranger District is located in western Virginia west of I-81 and north of the town of Blacksburg.
