General Information

Description - A popular spot for those who enjoy the outdoors, Caney Creek is located on the shores of Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Completed in 1966, this recreation area provides visitors with rustic charm surrounded by the pristine beauty of nature.

There are 25 primitive campsites in the Caney Creek Recreation Area.There is no water, sewer or electricity available at this area.

Campground regulations, fee payment instructions and emergency phone numbers are posted at the pay station at the Caney Creek Recreation Area entrance.

Attractions - Located within the Angelina National Forest, Caney Creek Recreation Area offers visitors to this popular, picturesque site access to the Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Additionally the site provides 123 campsites.

Recreation - Recreation at Caney Creek includes, camping, boating and swimming.

Climate - Eastern Texas experiences mild, comfortable winters and warm to hot, humid summers. The area can offer a relatively warm escape for snow-free outdoor recreation during the winter months. Be prepared for occasional cold weather during the winter.

Location - From Zavalla, TX take State Highway 63 east toward Jasper for 6 miles. Turn left on FM 2743 at "Caney Creek" sign. Follow the road for 6 miles to the recreation area.

Report: Very pleasant surroundings..I would recomend taking restroom cleaning equipment..not bad, but resisdent staff to maintain them regularly..good area for fishing and nature hikes..no beach for swimming.. very good boat launch..overall a very nice experience.
