General Information

Description - Located on the shores of Sam Rayburn Reservoir, Harvey Creek was completed in 1963. The area has a popular boat ramp which provides access to the lake even when water levels are low. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility of the forest at this quiet hideaway operated and maintained by San Augustine County, (409)275-2762.

There is no camping and there are no restroom facilities available at Harvey Creek.

Attractions - Located within the Angelina National Forest, the Harvey Creek Recreation Area offers visitors to this popular, picturesque site access to the Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Additionally the users can relax within within the tranquil forest setting.

Recreation - Harvey Creek has a boat ramp that provides access to the lake evwen when water levels are low.

Climate - Eastern Texas experiences mild, comfortable winters and warm to hot, humid summers. The area can offer a relatively warm escape for snow-free outdoor recreation during the winter months. Be prepared for occasional cold weather during the winter.

Location - Travel along State Highway 147 south from Broaddus for 1 mile; turn left (east) onto FM 83 for 3 miles; turn right (south) onto FM 2390 for 6 miles to entrance.

Angelina National Forest - Four National Forests totaling about 637,000 acres are located in the "Pineywoods" region of East Texas. The Angelina National Forest surrounds Sam Rayburn Reservoir and covers over 153,000 acres.
Pineywoods - The Pineywoods region covers northeast Texas. Pineywoods topography is gently rolling to hilly forested land. This region includes almost all the National Forest land in Texas.
