General Information

Description - Arkansas has numerous rivers and streams located throughout the state. We have information on 13 rivers, four creeks and one bayou. Each river or stream is described on the individual descriptive pages of this section.

Attractions - The Arkansas River is the largest river in the state with many lakes, locks and dams located along its length. Arkansas's natural beauty and the many state parks and National forest lands enhance the access and recreational possibilities of the rivers and streams of the state.

Recreation - Arkansas rivers and streams offers many types of water sports recreation. Boating, fishing, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming activities are all found in Arkansas's Rivers and streams. Camping is available in nearby parks. Access is often through a state park or national forest.

Climate - Arkansas has a temperate climate with the coldest temperatures near freezing during December, January and February.
