Description - Nestled in an Ozark valley adjacent to the Ozark National Forest, Lake Fort Smith State Park offers some of Arkansas's most beautiful scenery, facilities and backpacking opportunities.

Attractions - The 178 mile Ozark Highlands Trail begins in this park. The park's scenic beauty is enhanced during spring and fall rains with a cascading spillway created by the Lake Fort Smith dam.

Facilities include 12 campsites, picnic sites, a standard pavilion, Olympic size pool, tennis courts, trails, a launch ramp, and ten fully equipped cabins with kitchens. The visitor center offers rental canoes, fishing boats and motors. A group dormitory with kitchen and dining hall is also available for rent.

Recreation - Lake Fort Smith State Park offers many outdoor activities. Visitors can camp, picnic, hike, swim, play tennis, boat, and fish.

Climate - Arkansas has a temperate climate with the coldest temperatures near freezing during December, January and February. Daytime highs for these months usually reach 55 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures are very mild with lows dipping to 44 degrees F and highs reaching 70 degrees F. July and August are the hottest months of the year with average temperatures reaching 90 degrees F. June and September average temperatures usually reach into the mid-eighties. Spring and winter months are the wettest of the year.

Location - Lake Fort Smith State Park is at the northern edge of Mountainburg in the Ozark Mountains Region of northwestern Arkansas. From Mountainburg, go north on U.S. 71. Watch for the park access sign on U.S. 71, then travel 1/2 mile east to the park.
