Report: Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park is sort of like the Charlie Brown Pumpkin Patch. It is sincere and run by a dedicated staff and knowledgeble volunteers willing to take the time to help visitors understand the purpose of the park from the historic battle itself with all it's heros to how a pioneer family survived a day to day existence. The park itself is the best reward and of course is it's own landmark. We attended the 2004 reenactment so the best place to eat was at the campfire shared with old and new friends gathered from across the country. My suggestion for the next guy is to take the exit off I-540, it's only a few miles out of the beaten path but plan to spend more than a couple of hours to appreciate the park and all it has to offer.
