Description - The Red Rock Scenic Road was designated a scenic road on February 20, 1987, by the Arizona Department of Transportation. The route traverses the beautiful Red Rock Country of Arizona a place that attracts New Age believers who are convinced of its spiritual energy. The route provides panoramic views of eroded monuments, promontories, cliffs and buttes, formed by the waters and winds of nature. Here numerous vivid sheer walls and various isolated erosion - carved monuments and promontories form this spectacular Red Rock Country. The road traverses four vegetative life zones and rises from 3,600 feet to over 5,000 feet in elevation. The terrain varies from rolling, undulating valley basins and alluvial bottoms to rugged, sharply broken, near vertical cliffs and canyons.
