Description -
A Beautiful Urban Byway
Parks, recreation centers, historic districts and lakes are all definining characteristics of the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway. Depending on the seasons, travelers interact with a landscape encompassing combinations of natural areas, historical features, and cultural amenities. The Grand Rounds Scenic Byway has been the "creme de la creme" of urban scenic byways for more than a century, being the longest continuous system of public urban parkways and providing motorists with access to an unprecedented combination of intrinsic qualities of the highest quality. So spend a day in the park and enjoy the best of Minneapolis.

Seven Unique Districts
Offering a unique scenic byway experience, the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway is a continuous course of paved pathways. It encompasses more than 50 miles of parks, parkways, bike paths, and pedestrian paths that encircle the byway's entire host city, Minneapolis. The system includes the Chain of Lakes, Lake Nokomis, Lake Hiawatha, and the Mississippi Rivers, as well as Minnehaha, Shingle, and Bassetts Creeks. Currently, the byway is divided into seven main sections that include the Downtown Riverfront, the Mississippi River, Minnehaha Park, Chain of Lakes, Theodore Wirth, Victory Memorial District, and the Northeast District.

Attractions - The Grand Rounds Scenic Byway is known for it's Archeology, Cultural, Historical, Natural, Recreational and Scenic Attractions.

Directions from : There are many ways to reach this scenic byway.

  • From the north: Take I-35W south into Minneapolis, exit on Stinson Boulevard, and take a right on Stinson Boulevard heading north.

  • From the south: Take I-35W north into Minneapolis, exit at 46th Street, and take a left (west) on 46th Street to East Lake Harriet Parkway or a right (east) on East Lake Harriet Parkway heading north.

  • From the west: Take I-394 east into Minneapolis, exit at Penn Avenue, and take a left on Penn Avenue to Glenwood Avenue. Take a left (west) on Glenwood Avenue to Theodore Wirth Parkway.

  • From downtown Minneapolis: Take East Hennepin Avenue to West River Parkway.
