Englebright Dam is located in the steep Yuba River gorge known as the Narrows
Description - Englebright Lake is nestled in the scenic Sierra foothills east of Marysville. Constructed for the storage of hydraulic gold mining debris, Englebright Dam is a concrete arch structure. It spans 1,142 feet across and is 260 feet high. The dam is in the steep Yuba River gorge known as the Narrows, holding back a 9-mile long lake with a surface area of 815 acres. The lake is unique in that it offers boat-in camping only.

Attractions - The park is open all year. Camping opportunities are unique as all campsites are boat-in only and located along the lake's 24 miles of shoreline. A group campground is available by reservation only. Group tours and ranger programs can be scheduled by calling the office.

The lake provides plenty of space for the boating enthusiast, water-skier or angler. Boats can be launched ($) from one of two boat ramps. Skippers Cove Marina (see Contact Information for phone number) offers numerous facilities.

To the expert or beginning angler, Englebright means fish. Game fish such as rainbow and brown trout, large and smallmouth bass and kokanee salmon abound in the lake's clear, cool water.

Recreation - A variety water sports, day hikes, and picnic destinations await at Englebright Lake. Group camping is available by reservation. Boat-in camping available.Picnicking and hiking opportunities are available.

Leashed pets are permitted. Golden Age and Golden Access passports are accepted for a 50% discount on single unit fees. Golden Age cards may be purchased with proof of age (62) and American citizenship.

Climate - The area around Englebright Lake generally experiences warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters. Weather can change rapidly during all seasons of the year. Elevation plays a major role in temperature and precipitation. Most precipitation falls from October through April. At higher elevations, it comes mostly in the form of snow. Clouds can build up during the summer to produce thunderstorm activity. It is wise to pack for any season with clothing that can be "layered," ready to peel off or add on as the thermometer dictates. Always include some kind of rain gear.

Location - Englebright Lake is located east of Marysville. Go 21 miles east from Marysville on State Highway 20 to the entrance.

Report: this lake is great because of the boat-in nature of the campgrounds, which limits the campers to true boaters/outdoorsman. the high canyons give an awesome feel as you move up into the upper part of the lake. beachy campsites are available in the upper part of the lake, while the lower part is great for activities. the houseboat and party barge rentals at skippers cove are affordable and worth it. these pontoon-type boats are all unique with a jed clampett type feel - meant in a good way. we have a group of about 5 families and alternate between a party boat / campout weekend and a houseboat weekend yearly for about 5 years.
