County and Regional Parks offer an easily accessible source of nature and outdoor recreation to many California residents and visitors. In many cases, the parks are located near urban areas, providing a taste of nature and an escape from the cities.

- California's County and Regional Parks offer a wide range of attractions from large open space preserves to more developed recreation facilities such as campgrounds, picnic areas, trails, ball fields, archery ranges, equestrian centers, swimming pools, meeting and reception centers ,and golf courses. The parks are as diverse as California's landscape and include beaches, forests, mountains, canyons, deserts, hot springs, lakes, reservoirs, rivers and more.
Recreation - The huge variety of County and Regional Parks offers tremendous outdoor recreation opportunities. Popular activities include swimming, surfing, sunning, wind surfing, and sailing, at county beaches. There are opportunities for fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, bird watching and touring historic sites. Climate - Thanks to California's generally mild climate, many recreation areas are accessible year round. Summer temperatures range from 100+ in the desert and Sacramento and Central Valleys, to a cool and often foggy 50 in San Francisco. The mildest weather statewide occurs in fall. Rain begins in late autumn and continues through winter in most areas. Winter brings heavy snow at higher elevations, particularly in the Sierra Nevada and other mountain ranges. Desert areas remain warm and coastal areas often experience mild temperatures during winter months. Location -
