General Information

Description - Los Angeles has a growing population of nearly four million people. These individuals share numerous green areas and local parks that satisfy their need for outdoor recreation. These areas include Griffith Park, a 4,000 acre area, that includes hiking trails, a golf course and the Autry Museum of Western Heritage. Exposition Park lies in the southern end of the city. It encompasses sport complexes, museums and gardens, as well as the University of Southern California. Several public areas lie on the Pacific Coast south of the city. These areas include: Redondo State Beach, Manhattan State Beach, Dockweiler State Beach and

Cultural and historical attractions also pervade Los Angeles. The Le Brea Tar Pits, and accompanying museum, lie within the city and provide a look at the geologic history of the area. El Pueblo de Los Angeles preserves the original area of the city and the Mexican Plaza established in 1781. The J. Paul Getty Center is the newest of art institutions in Los Angeles. The gardens and contemporary collections shouldn't be missed by art enthusiasts.

Recreation - This city lies on the Pacific coast, which provides an unlimited facility for many water sports. Swimming, surfing, fishing and boating are very popular along the shoreline. Golfing, biking, rollerblading and walking are popular activities for residents and visitors alike.

Climate - This city has a very mild climate with average temperatures near 70 degrees F. During the winter months lows dip into the 40s with the rainiest months being January, February and March. Summer highs average mid eighties in July, August and September with trace amounts of rain. Because the city lies in a basin surrounded by mountains and ocean pollutant laden air often accumulates and smog results.

Location - Los Angeles is located in southern California along the Pacific Coast. The San Gabriel Mountains lie to the east of the city, with the Santa Monica Mountains to the north and Santa Ana Mountains to the south.
