Description - New Bullard Bar Reservoir is locate in the western region of the Tahoe National Forest in the Downieville Ranger District. The New Bullards Bar Reservoir offers camping, hiking, fishing, boating and picnicking as just a few of the activities available in the area.
Attractions
- This large, low elevation lake is generally accessible throughout the winter months and receives statewide use by anglers fishing for Kokanee, of which the lake is a fishery. Rainbow fingerlings are also planted on an annual basis in the lake. There is a self sustaining population of brook trout as well. Bullards Bar Trail runs along the shore of the lake and there are several campgrounds that are accessible by boat only, such as Madorne Cove and Garden Point Campground. Campgrounds accessible from the road are Dark Day and Schoolhouse Campground. Picnicking is available at Dark Day Picnic Area.

Climate - The Tahoe generally experiences warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters. Weather can change rapidly during all seasons of the year. Elevation plays a major role in temperature and precipitation. This precipitation falls mainly from October through April. At higher elevations, it comes mostly in the form of snow. A snow pack from 5-10 feet or more is usually present from December to May at elevations above 6,500 feet. Winter temperatures below zero and summer temperatures above 100 degrees indicate the normal seasonal spread. Clouds can build up during the summer to produce spectacular thunderstorm activity. It is wise to pack for any season with clothing that can be "layered", ready to peel off or add on as the thermometer dictates. Always include some kind of rain gear. Location -
