General Information

Description - Obvious attractions to San Luis Obispo are the natural features that surround the area. The Pacific coast lies 20 miles west. Morro Bay State Park and Montana De Oro State Park provide access to the coast and natural areas of the headlands. These parks also maintain picnic, camping, hiking and boating facilities.

Within the city itself are a variety of historical and cultural sites. The Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is an adobe structure built by Spanish priests and Chumash Indians in 1772. The Madonna Inn is an unusual example of eccentric American architecture and interior design, that shouldn't be missed if in the region.

This region is particularly good for agricultural pursuits. Wineries and fruit orchards surround the city of San Luis Obispo. Many of these businesses are open for tours and tasting. A northern extension of the Los Padres National Forest lies east of the region providing public lands for many recreation opportunities.

Recreation - This region provides access to mountain and ocean-oriented activities. Fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking, swimming, boating, climbing and biking opportunities are available within close proximity to this community.

Climate - This city receives mild weather throughout the year with temperatures averaging 70 degrees F. High summer temperatures reach into the low 80s with very little rainfall during July, August and September. Winter temperatures average between 40 and 70 degrees. Most of the rainfall for the region occurs during the months of November, December, January, February and March.

Location - This community lies midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The foothills of the Panza Range lie east of San Luis Obispo and the Pacific Ocean lies to the west. Highways 101 and 1 provide access to the region.
