General Information

Description - Boreal is an affordable, family resort located just off Interstate 80, known for its snowmaking capabilities, night skiing, and early season openings. Boreal is hassle-free, with easy access off I-80, one huge parking lot and an easy walk to the mountain.

Attractions - With the base at 7,200 feet and a summit elevation of 7,700 feet, Boreal has a 500 foot vertical drop. Its 41 runs and 380 acres are serviced by two quad chairs, three triple chairs and four double chairs.

200 of Boreal's 380 skiable acres are covered by snowmaking. With an average annual snowfall of around 400 inches, by November Boreal normally has plenty of natural snow to complement its snowmaking. Boreal's new halfpipe cutter has the ability to produce 17 foot high walls and a clean, large, precise halfpipe.

With Boreal's expanded night lighting, more terrain will be open at night. At night, Boreal offers beginner runs, cruising runs, a halfpipe, a terrain park, and a race course. Boreal is unique in that it is open nightly, not just weekends or holidays. For overnight stays, the Boreal Motel is just 1/4 mile from the ski resort and offers spacious rooms that can accommodate up to four people.

Recreation - Boreal offers 380 acres of terrain for skiing and snowboarding. In addition, Boreal also offers Playland sledding and mini snowmobile rental.

Climate - Changeable weather conditions are common in the Lake Tahoe area throughout the year. Winter storms may occur from September through June, with heavy snow accumulations likely. Boreal expects an average of around 400 inches of snow annually. Sunny, summer skies may cloud over quickly with thundershowers, catching some people by surprise. Weather may also vary or change rapidly from lake-level to mountain peaks.

Location - Boreal is located along Interstate 80 at Donner Summit, eight miles west of Truckee, 45 miles west of Reno, 80 miles east of Sacramento, and 175 miles east of San Francisco.

Directions from Reno: Follow I-80 west 45 miles to Boreal.

Directions from Sacramento: Follow I-80 east 80 miles to Boreal.
