General Information

Description - Castaic Lake State Recreation Area is a reservoir of the State Water Project. It is one of the Project's largest recreational lakes and the terminal of its west branch. The site includes 29 miles of shoreline. Both the lake and lagoon are stocked with bass, catfish and crappie. A major attraction is the 425-foot tall Castaic Dam. The area is operated by Los Angeles County.

Recreation - The lake is popular for boating, swimming and fishing. Both the lake and lagoon are stocked with bass, catfish and crappie.

Climate - A warm, dry Mediterranean climate prevails over Southern California - inland it is hot in the summer, mild in the winter. Coastal areas have a more moderate climate with frequent fog in the summer. Most of the precipitation comes as rain during the winter months.

Location - The recreation area can be reached by exiting Interstate 5 at Hughes Lake Road, 41 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. From Ventura, it is 51 miles to Castaic Lake via Highway 126 and Interstate 5.

Report: They are crowded alot and they have a small area for Personal Watercrafts. Go to Big Bear Lake. It's only 2 1/2 Hrs. away from there.
