Description
- The North Coast Region is a land of rugged shoreline and pounding surf, of towering redwood forests and rushing rivers, of verdant hills and bountiful vineyards. Historical sites in the region include the town where the 1846 Bear Flag Revolt took place, the site of the last-built California mission, and Russia's southernmost California outpost. This region features 23 state parks, five state recreational areas, seven state historic parks, and six state reserves.
Recreation - Activities at the state park sites in this area include: hiking, biking, picnicking, camping, swimming, boating, fishing, surfing, wind surfing, horseback riding, and viewing the spectacular scenery. Climate - Summers are generally mild. Fog is often encountered near the coastline, with sunny, warmer weather more common inland in the foothills. Winters are generally cool with considerable precipitation. Wear layers of clothing to accommodate cool to warm temperatures and good walking shoes. The North Coast Region, stretches nearly 400 miles, from just north of San Francisco to the Oregon border. The main highways accessing this region are 1 and 101 running north/south.
