Report: Excellent location for a California beach sunset photo shoot if you don't mind some 5.4 level hiking and climbing to get to the southern side of Point Dume. The views are just as spectacular from the beach as they are from the peak of the famous point. Excellent lead and top-rope climbing is availble on the Seaward and leeward side of the Point. Outstanding Scuba diving area with easy access to a very deep kelp canyon with excellent visibility all year.

Report: The best approach to avoid traffic snarls is via Kanan Dume Road from the 101. Turn right when you hit PCH and look for the sign about 80 yards on the left that points to the entrance to Point Dume. A winding trail leads to the top of the Rock where you can watch whales and other large marine animals pass by the point. The rock face is a popular climbing area and provides for good entertainment also. A very clean, quiet beach. Worth a trip.
