San Clemente State Beach
Description - San Clemente State Beach is popular with surfers on the north end of the one-mile beach. Other popular activities are skin diving for abalone and spiny lobster and hiking along the trails on the bluffs. Trails lead down to the beach, which is also popular for body surfing, swimming, and skin diving. Camping is available, contact the parks department for reservations.

Attractions - San Clemente State Beach is popular with surfers on the north end of the one-mile beach. The beach has a landscaped blufftop with picnic areas.

Recreation - This beach is popular with surfers, other popular activities are skin diving for abalone and spiny lobster and hiking along the trails on the bluffs. Trails lead down to the beach, which is also popular for body surfing, swimming, and skin diving. Camping is available, contact the parks department for reservations.

Climate - A warm, dry Mediterranean climate prevails over Southern California - inland it is hot in the summer, mild in the winter. Coastal areas have a more moderate climate with frequent fog in the summer. Most of the precipitation comes as rain during the winter months.

Location - The beach is located three miles south of San Clemente on I-5 (Basilone Road.) The park entrance is reached via the Avenida Calafia exit off I-5 near the south end of San Clemente.

Report: the toughest part was walking back up the hill from the beach. Other then this, it's a great campsite. We were there 2 years ago, and have not been able to get reservations to go back, there fore we have been stayign on the otherside of the freeway at San Mateo, which is a great place too, but you have to drive to the beach.
