Description
- The sandstone bluffs, gentle surf, and wide, sandy beaches of this region offer great recreation to all visitors. However, this region is also a place of historic battlefields, lively celebrations of the Mexican era in California, and important natural preserves.San Diego County features the Cleveland National Forest, three state parks, seven state beaches, two state historic parks, and one state reserve.
Recreation - Activities at the state park sites in this area include: swimming, surf fishing, horseback riding, hiking, biking, surfing, picnicking, and camping. Climate - A warm, dry Mediterranean climate prevails over Southern California - inland it is hot in the summer, mild in the winter. Coastal areas have a more moderate climate with frequent fog in the summer. Most of the precipitation comes as rain during the winter months. The best seasons to visit are spring and fall but with the generally mild climate, outdoor activities are available year-round in Southern California. Location -
San Diego County, located in southern California, stretches northward from the Mexican border to Camp Pendleton, and eastward from the Pacific Ocean to the border of the sprawling Anza-Borrego Desert. The main highways accessing this county are 5 and 15 running north/south and 8 running east/west.
