Description - Chippokes is one of the oldest working farms in America. It is a beautiful living historical exhibit located along Virginia's James River. The park is named for Chief Chippokes of the Powhatan nation.

- Chippokes Plantation is a wonderful living historical exhibit located in the heart of Virginia's pork and peanut country. Seasonal cultivated gardens and native woodland grace this gentile park. In addition to the many traditional park facilities, it is home to a lovely 1850s mansion with formal gardens.
Recreation - Specific activities at Chippokes Plantation State Park include hiking, biking, picnicking, individual and group camping, cabin lodging, and swimming. In addition, the park features three historical opportunities: Farm and Forestry Museum, visitor center exhibits and The Stewart Mansion.
Each fall deer hunts are available within designated park ground. Call the park manager for details.
Plantation Christmas / A Festival of Crafts is held each fall at this park. Over 100 craftspeople demonstrate their unique skills and sell their one-of-a-kind crafts in an old-fashioned plantation setting. Historical-style live entertainment and delicious country food make this event special for the entire family. Pets are strongly discouraged at this event. A short ferry ride takes the visitor to historic Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens.
Climate - Virginia generally has mild winters and warm humid summers. The eastern portion of the state has winter temperatures averaging above 36 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius). The state's summer temperatures have little variation. The eastern portion of Virginia generally experiences temperatures above 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius). High humidity along with warm temperatures can be uncomfortable.
This lovely historical working planation is located in Surry County, Virginia just 5.5 miles east of Surry. The park is located on Rt. 634, just off Rt. 10.
