This Park was once the location of the first house constructed in the Town of Winsted. The rolling, open land was formerly known as Hall Meadow after the adjacent Hall Brook.
There is also no parking fee at John A. Minetto State Park.
Attractions
- John A. Minetto State Park offers wonderful facilities including picnic tables. This park offers no bathroom facilities.
Recreation - The winter offers wonderful cross-counrty skiing, while the summer brings plenty of fishing opportunities. Picnic opportunities are also avaliable. Climate - The climate of this state involves a moderate amount of humidity, heat and cold. Summer highs reach 90 degrees F with low temperatures near 65 degrees. Evenings near the water can become cool and light jackets and sweaters are recommended. Winter temperatures average in the mid thirties during the day and in the teens at night. Rarely do temperatures dip to zero, especially in the southern portion of the state, where the water influences the more temperate weather. Location -
From the North: take Route 8 south, Exit 44 – (Route 4). Head west on Route 4, through Torrington, for 1½ miles to the junction of Route 272. Head north on Route 272 for about 4 miles. The park is located on the right of Route 272. Watch for the State Park shield sign.
From the South: take Route 8 north, Exit 44 - (Route 4). Head west on Route 4, through Torrington, for 1½ miles to the junction of Route 272. Head north on Route 272 for about 4 miles. Park is located on the right of Route 272. Watch for the State Park shield sign.
From the East: take I-84, Exit 39 – (Route 4) and follow Route 4 through Torrington to the junction of Route 272. Head north on Route 272 for about 4 miles. The park is located on the right of Route 272. Watch for the State Park shield sign.
From the West: take I-84 east to Waterbury, Exit 19 – (Route 8 north). Take Route 8 north, Exit 44 – (Route 4) in Torrington. Head west on Route 4 through Torrington for 1½ miles to the junction of Route 272. Head north on Route 272 for about 4 miles. Park is located on the right of Route 272. Watch for the State Park shield sign.
