General Information

Description - *This information was provided by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection*

In 1918-1920, this Park was known as a traveler's wayside; motorists could stop to have their cars serviced and enjoy a quiet picnic lunch. The park was the forerunner of the rest areas developed by the State Department of Transportation.

Attractions - Wharton Brook State Park Offers fishing, picnicking, and swimming.

Wharton Brook State Park is also a designated Trout Park.

Recreation - Wharton Brook's facilities include bathrooms and picnic shelters. Pets on a leash are permitted in picnic areas.

Climate - The climate of this state involves a moderate amount of humidity, heat and cold. Summer highs reach 90 degrees F with low temperatures near 65 degrees. Evenings near the water can become cool and light jackets and sweaters are recommended. Winter temperatures average in the mid thirties during the day and in the teens at night. Rarely do temperatures dip to zero, especially in the southern portion of the state, where the water influences the more temperate weather.

Location - From I-91 (north or south): take Exit 13. Take a left at the end of the long exit ramp onto Route 5 south. Park entrance is a tenth of a mile on the left.
