Description - The Northeast Travel Region awaits the Atlantic Coast explorer who loves big-city adventure, ritzy resorts, world-class golf tournaments, and a region steeped in history. The region lies just south of the Georgia state line along the Atlantic Ocean stretching southwest to encompass America's oldest city, St. Augustine. Visitors of all ages enjoy touring the St. Augustine Alligator Farm which provides habitat and housing for reptile from around the globe. It also includes the popular St. Johns River, known as the "Bass Capital of the World." Tourists will find Flagler Beach to be a quieter destination, yet an element of elegance prevails in the area known for golf courses designed by golfing giants Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. Flagler Beach is also popular with other outdoor enthusiasts besides duffers. It boasts an 844-foot fishing pier jutting into the Atlantic Ocean. The on-site bait and tackle shops sell food and gear, and rent gear as well. The pier may be accessed 24 hours a day. Security protection keeps an eye over nighttime anglers. Other popular oceanfront destinations include Amelia Island with its first-class luxury accommodations and places like Fernandina Beach, a 50-block historic district with seaport atmosphere. Numerous state and federal lands offer historic sites including prehistoric artifacts and a 16th century fort, sights of vegetated dunes, salt marshes, and coastal marine forest. Wildlife and birdlife abound.

Recreation - The Northeast Travel Region is a fun place to visit. Numerous museums entice history and cultural buffs. Sightseeing tours and scenic cruises are abundant. Saltwater fishing and some of the world's best warmwater fishing opportunities are offered. America's first city with its quaint atmosphere and 16th century fort draw millions of tourists annually. Golfing, fine dining, exquisite upscale shopping, antiquing, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, canoeing, bird-watching and wildlife viewing are just some of the recreations enjoyed in this coastal area lush with natural beauty and flourishing wildlife. Climate - Summers in northeastern Florida are hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Summer temperatures average in the low 80's Fahrenheit (27 - 28 Celsius). Mild winter temperatures average below 52 degrees Fahrenheit (below 11 Celsius). Freezing temperatures are infrequent but windy conditions are common. The average precipitation for the northeast area is between 52 and 56 inches per year. Light, loose fitting clothing is recommended in spring, summer and fall. Layered clothing is recommended for winter. Biting insects are common throughout the year and are especially heavy from late April through early June. Location -
Northeast Travel Region falls along the Georgia state line to the north, Atlantic Ocean to the east, encompassing St. Augustine to the south and terminating several miles south of Flagler Beach. Territory to the west reaches Clay and Baker Counties.
