General Information

Description - Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield is a 2,884 acre National Battlefield that preserves a Civil War battleground located west of Atlanta, Georgia. Two engagements between Union and Confederate forces took place here during the Atlanta Campaign from June 20-July 2, 1864.

This region of significant U.S. military history has been set aside as a memorial to the individuals who fought to preserve the United States Government. Although once sites of violence, today the battlefields in the National Parks System provide bucolic landscapes for reflection and recreation. The visitor center within the park contains a small exhibit area with Civil War uniforms, guns, cannon and a medical kit. The park also features sixteen miles of hiking trails.

Recreation - Recommended activities in the park include ranger and living history programs available from the visitor center plus walking and hiking on the sixteen miles of hiking trails within the park. Impact is high on the facilities of this well-used park. Please stay in developed areas.

Climate - The climate in northern Georgia is generally temperate. Short, cool winters give relief from hot summers. Most visitors enjoy this area during long, mild fall and spring seasons.

Location - Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield is an urban park located immediately west of Atlanta, Georgia.
