Description - Located in the Piedmont Region of Georgia, Sweetwater Creek State Park is a peaceful tract of wilderness only minutes from bustling downtown Atlanta. The park features a variety of natural and cultural resources, including the ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company, a Civil War-era textile mill. The 2,035-acre park offers wonderful day use amenities along the shores of the 215-acre George Sparks Reservoir. In addition to a list of the usual park amenities, Sweetwater Creek offers three annual historic events along with regularly scheduled educational programs conducted by the park staff.

Recreation - Sweetwater Creek State Park is a restful haven just minutes away from one of America's busiest urban centers. George Sparks Reservoir offers acres of fishing opportunities. Electric motorboating and canoeing is permitted. The park even offers boat / canoe rental and a bait shop. Visitors will find plenty of day use amenities including 11 picnic shelters amid several picnic areas equipped with grills and potable water. Children find enjoyment at playgrounds and two fishing docks. Seven miles of pathways meander along shady streams where anglers and hikers enjoy the trailside water. Environmental education programs are held throughout the year with annual events including February's History Month Lectures, June's Native American Festival and September's New Manchester Historic Commemoration.

Climate - Georgia generally experiences mild, comfortable winters and warm to hot, humid summers. Be prepared for occasional cold weather during the winter.
