- Located in the Highlands Region of Georgia and situated on a rugged peninsula that juts into Hartwell Reservoir, Tugaloo State Park offers wonderful views from nearly all locations. Overnight areas are featured at water's edge offering a relaxing atmosphere and wonderful wildlife viewing opportunities. The name "Tugaloo" is an Indian name in reference to the river that once flowed freely prior to the construction of Hartwell Dam. The park presently sits on 393 acres and is packed with recreation amenities for the outdoor enthusiast.

Recreation - This lovely state park has a long list of amenities that will surely satisfy a variety of tastes and ages. The campground and cottage area are lakeside offering very pleasant views from all directions. The area has 117 sites and accommodates both tents or RVs. In addition, five primitive campsites, a pioneer camping spot and 20 rental cottages are available. There are tennis courts, a swimming beach with bathhouse, two boat ramps and a miniature golf course. Water-skiing is a favorite sport while anglers find the fishing to be excellent year-round. The lake supports a thriving population of largemouth bass. Four miles of nature trails meander around the water's edge and into the woodland mixture of pine and hardwoods. The park even offers seasonal canoe rental. Visitors to Tugaloo State Park will find a sandy volleyball court, horseshoe pits and regularly scheduled mountain music entertainment. Park hours are from 7 a.m. 10 p.m. Nearby attractions include the Victoria Bryant State Park and Golf Course, Traveler's Rest State Historic Site, Tallulah Gorge State Park, Ty Cobb Museum, Toccoa Falls and Hartwell Dam.
Climate - Georgia generally experiences mild, comfortable winters and warm to hot, humid summers. Be prepared for occasional cold weather during the winter.
Take I-85 exit #58 north on Georgia 17; follow park signs to Gerrard Road, turn right. Go 1.5 miles to Ga. Hwy. 328 and turn left. Proceed 3.3 miles to park; entrance on right.
