Description - Nestled in the north Georgia mountains just two miles from the Alpine village of Helen, Unicoi is one of Georgia's most popular state parks. Throughout the year, the park offers outstanding programs, including a music festival, art show, and mountain culture and environmental programs. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy hiking and biking on scenic mountain trails, while craft lovers will enjoy shopping in the craft shop specializing in handmade quilts. Cottages, campsites and the 100-room lodge offer a wide choice of overnight accommodations

This park is in the highlands region of Georgia.

Recreation - The park has 84 developed campsites, 30 cottages and a 100 room lodge for accommodations. The 53 acre lake offers a swimming beach, fishing, and canoe and pedal boat rental. Trails in the park are open to hiking and mountain biking.

Climate - Georgia generally experiences mild, comfortable winters and warm to hot, humid summers. Be prepared for occasional cold weather during the winter.

Location - Located 2 miles northeast of Helen via Ga. Hwy. 356.

Report: Smith Creek train on a very rainy day. Was dufficult but very rewarding. International Cafe in Helen Spent one week, facilities and staff are excellent. Highly recommended.

Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites - There are 54 State Parks in Georgia, located throughout the state. The northern part of the state has the most parks with a high concentration along the coast as well.
Highlands Region - This area comprises the northern quarter of the state. Gainesville is the major city within this region. The terrain in this area is lush and mountainous.
