Description
- The Highlands Area of Georgia is the northern quarter of the state. The terrain in this area is lush and mountainous. The Chattahoochee National Forest lies entirely within this region. The forest offers many lakes, scenic areas, and recreation areas. The Chattooga Wild and Scenic Area is another major attraction to the area.There are 17 State Parks and Historic Sites in this region of the state.
Recreation - The National Forest offers numerous recreation areas and campgrounds. The forest also has many trails open to hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and ATV use. Climate - The climate of the north Georgia mountains is temperate with moderately cold winters and warm, humid summers. Precipitation is fairly well distributed throughout the year; there are no wet or dry seasons. Location -
This area comprises the northern quarter of the state. Gainesville is the major city within this region.
