General Information

Description - This unique National Park is the only site in the National Park System that honors the bravery and sacrifices of all those who participated in the Pacific Theater of World War II. This includes the United States, Japan, and the Allied nations; Australia, Canada, China, France, Great Britain, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and the Soviet Union.

Attractions - At War in the Pacific National Historical Park the former battlefields, gun emplacements, trenches, and historic structures all serve as silent reminders of the bloody World War II battles that ensued on Guam. While the park is known for its historical resources, the warm climate, sandy beaches, and turquoise waters beckon visitors and residents to enjoy the island's natural resources.It includes major historic sites associated with the 1944 battle for Guam, an example of the island-hopping military campaign against the Japanese. The park contains seven distinct units illustrating various aspects of the struggle. Aging gun emplacements and other military equipment relics also can be seen. LIMITED FEDERAL FACILITIES.

Recreation - The T. Stell Newman Visitor Center provides an opportunity to enhance the visitor's knowledge of the Pacific Theater of World War II and the war years on Guam. Museum exhibits and interpretive programs illustrate the events surrounding the Pacific War and the Battle for Guam. Film presentations are available in four languages: English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. Hours of Operation are 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Climate - The year-round temperature averages 27°C (80°F) and the ocean temperature a pleasant 27.2°C (81°F) May to November is the rainy season, and you can expect wet, hot, and humid days. Temperatures cool down from November through April, the dry season, and tropical trade winds are common.

Location - From the airport or Tumon, where most hotels are located, make your way to Route 1, Marine Corps Drive. Head south until the road ends and you arrive at the Naval Station Guam front gate. To the right, adjacent to the large 2-man Type-C Japanese midget submarine, is the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center.
