Description - Makapu'u Point State Wayside park encompasses 38 acres surrounding the lighthouse on O'ahu's southeastern point.
- A one mile (one-way) walk along an abandoned road leads to the lighthouse. The walk provides excellent views of the Pacific Ocean and the coastal cliffs along the southeastern O'ahu shoreline. Whales may occasionally be sighted. This is an uphill climb with a 500-foot elevation gain with often hot, dry and windy conditions. There are no facilities at this park so no drinking water or restrooms are available.
Recreation - Recreation opportunities at Makapu'u Point include coastal photography, walking, viewing scenery and the possibility of viewing whales.
