Today, the waters of Lake Cumberland are more placid; it's a peaceful retreat for campers, boaters, golfers and fishermen alike. A marina near the park has all the supplies you'll need for a great day on the lake, and the campground is the perfect home base for outdoor adventure. The biggest challenge to visitors these days may be the 18-hole golf course; it's fun, but certainly not hazard-free!
- General Burnside extends you an invitation to enjoy great facilities for your next picnic outing. Picnic tables, grills, and a playground are available. Two picnic shelters (one with rest rooms) are available for rental up to one year in advance.
Recreation - Cool lake breezes and beautiful views make camping at General Burnside a great getaway. The campground features 94 sites with utility hookups, two central service buildings with showers and rest rooms, and a dump station.
Lake Cumberland provides some of the best fishing in the United States. Fish for crappie (10-inch size limit), largemouth and smallmouth bass (15-inch size limit) and striped bass (24-inch size limit and two fish daily limit).
A marina next to the park has everything you need for a great day on the lake: rental slips, rental fishing boats, ski boats, pontoon boats, and houseboats are offered. A six-lane launching ramp at the park provides you with the perfect access to a fun-filled day on the lake. $ for rentals.
The community pool at General Burnside is a great place to cool off on a hot summer day. While you spend the day at the pool, enjoy some of your favorite treats from the concession stand.
Climate - This state experiences a temperate climate with nearly 50 inches of rainfall annually. Thirteen inches of snow is an annual average in Kentucky. There are four distinct seasons here with summer temperatures reaching 90 degrees F frequently in July and August. Low summer temperatures dip near 70 degrees F at night. Winter high temperatures often reach 45 degrees with lows dipping below freezing. Spring and fall are particularly pleasant seasons in which to visit Kentucky. Fall months are the driest. The humidity levels in the state average near 54 degrees throughout the year. The humidity during the winter months averages somewhat higher.
