Attractions - The park features excellent shade and 23 full utility, 13 water/electric, 82 electric only, and 306 primitive campsites, as well as six cabins. Designated electrical sites may be reserved, and Bluebird Primitive Campground is reservable for camping groups. Three shower/toilet buildings, three vault toilets, year-round freeze proof water hydrants and two trailer dump stations are centrally located in the park.

Recreation - A historic limestone school hosts summer church services, and an archery range is located north of the Cottonwood shower building. The Pioneer day-use area features a playground, sand volleyball, softball diamond, and horse shoe pits. Two basketball courts are located west of the marina. The Southwinds Swimming Beach offers plenty of sun and shade. Picnic facilities are available throughout the dayuse areas, as well as a large log group shelter that can be reserved.

Lovewell hosts several annual special events, including a Kids Fishing Derby in early June, fireworks and sand castle contest in July, Lovewell Fun Day in August, and various other special events and fishing tournaments throughout the year.

The 2,900-acre Lovewell Reservoir is popular with anglers. The south shore features high bluffs that block summer winds. The 2,200- acre Lovewell Wildlife Area invites hunters, wildlife watchers, and other wildlife enthusiasts to experience a variety of well-managed habitats.

Climate - Kansas has an annual mean temperature almost as high as that of Virginia, more sunshine than that of any state to the east, and generous summer rains. The State lies across the path of alternate masses of warm moist air moving north from the Gulf of Mexico and currents of cold, comparatively dry, air moving from the polar regions. Consequently, its weather is subject to frequent and often sharp changes, usually of short duration. Summers are inclined to be warm--often the word "hot" describes them best--but are healthful, with low relative humidity during periods of high temperatures, and usually a good wind movement. Heat prostrations are almost unknown. Summer nights are usually cool, especially in the western counties. Winters are drier, with more sunshine than those of eastern states. The average snowfall is less than that of other states, except those located farther south. Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, and the New England States normally have from two to three times as much snowfall as Kansas.

Location - Located in northern Jewell County
