Patuxent River State Park
Description - Over 6,000 acres of undeveloped state land rests in Howard and Montgomery Counties, along the Patuxent River Valley between MD State Routes 27 and 97. A portion of the park has been designated as a State Wildlands Area where access is restricted. The stream valley park is used mainly for hunting and fishing. Natural surface trails lead from the parking lots at stream crossings along the length of the river.

Attractions - Located along the Patuxent River, this undeveloped state park offers a self-guided nature trail, a trout stream and varied hunting opportunities. The park does have primitive camping opportunities and a one canoe campsite. Call Seneca State Park for details.

The park does have handicapped accessible hunting area.

Recreation - Visitors will find just a few recreations including trails, fishing stream, cross-country skiing, hunting grounds, primitive campsites and one canoe campsite.

Climate - Maryland has four distinct seasons with spring and fall being particularly pleasant with low humidity and mild temperatures. The average January temperature ranges between 30 and 34 degrees F (-1 to 1 C) with July averages ranging between 74 degrees F and 80 degrees F. Typically, coastal temperatures are slightly warmer then the western Appalachian Plateau area. Travelers should be aware that winters can become miserably cold and summers can be hazy, hot and humid with afternoon thundershowers.

Location - Patuxent River State Park is located in Maryland's Capitol Region at the southern end of Tiadelphia Reservoir, west of State Route 97.

Report: 7/6/03 Canoe trip from Queen Annes bridge ( 1/2 mile south of Rt. 214, PG county, parking in lot 100yds from canoe put in muddy bank just north of bridge)mild current, snags, strainers but no problems, pleasant 8-9 mile paddle to Wayson's Corner take-out with paved lot next to Rt 4 bridge - time 21/2 hours leisurly paddle with the tide and current. Have fun!
