Rocky Gap State Park
Description - Rocky Gap State Park encompasses over 3,000 acres of public land for guests to enjoy. Rugged mountains surround the park which features 250 acre Lake Habeeb. The lake is fed by Rocky Gap Run which winds its way through an impressive mile long gorge displaying sheer cliffs, overlooks and a hemlock forest dense with rhododendron. Overlooking the lake is Evitts Mountain, named for an early settler in Allegany County.

Attractions - Rocky Gap State Park is a beautiful, developed park featuring 3,000 acres of forest, open meadow and beachfront. Much of the recreation is centered around the 250-acre lake, which supports several species of warmwater fish along with several trout species. The park offers a summertime children's fishing program, night fishing, lake swimming, and plenty of rental boats of varying types. A large lakeside playground with nearby drinking fountain, keeps the kids entertained for hours.

Nature Tourism is a rapidly growing program within Maryland State Forests and Parks. The staff at Rocky Gap work with Maryland's outdoor guides and outfitters to introduce more people to nature tourism experiences including canoeing, kayaking, bicycling, hunting, rock climbing, historical tours, rappelling, wildlife viewing, rafting, fishing and backpacking.

The trails at Rocky Gap are one of the park's finest features. They range from an easy nature trail to a 1,000-foot rock scramble. Rocky Gap has a trail for everyone, particularly now that the park offers two all-terrain chairs.

Outdoor recreation for the handicapped abounds at Rocky Gap State Park. ADA amenities include a mobility impaired fishing dock, amphitheater, picnic tables and campsite. The park offers two all-terrain chairs and a submersible pool chair. These chairs are available to guests without charge. Trail and hunting programs along with interpretive pontoon boat rides are also available to all.

A large campground and cabin community provide overnight guests with peaceful solitude and cool mountain breezes. Sites are reservable up to 12 months in advance.

The Rocky Gap Lodge and Golf Resort is the perfect spot for your next business meeting. Top off your occasion with a round at the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.

Recreation - Rocky Gap State Park is one of Maryland's most popular parks due to its expansive offering of outdoor recreation. The mountain scenery attracts thousands for camping and cabin use, lake fishing, summertime swimming, environmental education, business meetings, picnic gatherings, round of golf, multi-use trails, non-motorized boating, rock scrambling, and more.

Climate - Maryland has four distinct seasons with spring and fall being particularly pleasant with low humidity and mild temperatures. The average January temperature ranges between 30 and 34 degrees F (-1 to 1 C) with July averages ranging between 74 degrees F and 80 degrees F. Typically, coastal temperatures are slightly warmer then the western Appalachian Plateau area. Travelers should be aware that winters can become miserably cold and summers can be hazy, hot and humid with afternoon thundershowers.

Location - Rocky Gap State Park is located in Allegany County in western Maryland, seven miles east of exit 50/Cumberland on U.S. I68.
