Description - Maine waters have been enjoyed and for literally thousands of years. The over 32,000 miles of rushing waters and over 3,000 expansive lakes and ponds offer year-round enjoyment for the outdoor enthusiast. Seasonal temperatures rarely stop those wishing to enjoy the beautiful wilderness environment.

- Each region of Maine offers water recreation. Visitors have an endless list to choose from. Maine offers surf-crashing rocky shores along the North Atlantic Coast, beautiful tributaries such as Kennebec and Penobscot, fabulous fishing waters of Rangeley Lakes, remote paddleboat waterways and countless pristine lakes and ponds.
Recreation - A variety of boating and fishing opportunities are enjoyed throughout the state year-round including canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and sailing. Visitors and residents alike enjoy both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Maine is known for its abundant landlocked salmon, brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, striped bass and bluefish. Many of the waters are stocked regularly and highly restrictive regulations apply. Visitors should be aware of the very low bag limits, high length limits and restrictions on flies & lures. Climate - The climate in this northern state is cool year round. Summer high temperatures average near 75 degrees F, but often reach 90 degrees in the southern portion of the state. Summer evenings are cool and a sweater is usually necessary. Fall is usually dry with crisp days and cool nights. Expect nighttime temperatures to reach into the high 30s, especially in the northern regions of the state. This weather brings spectacular foliage colors between early September and late October. Winter can be long and gray in Maine, but recreation opportunities abound to beat the cold. Average daytime temperatures from December through March remain close to 20 degrees F. Nighttime temperatures can dip below zero. Spring is usually wet with snowmelt and rains. Moderate temperatures between 45 and 60 degrees F can be expected during the day. Location -
