General Information

Description - Cambridge State Historic Park is the site of Walker Tavern, a major stopping place for stagecoaches traveling between Detroit and Chicago in the mid-19th century. The site is located at the intersection of the Detroit-Chicago Road and the Monroe Pike at Cambridge Junction. The stagecoach ride from Detroit to Chicago was a rugged five-day journey. Walker Tavern served as a welcome respite offering hot meals, overnight accommodations, and political talk.

Attractions - Today, Walker Tavern offers the visitor sights of a reproduction barn with interpretive exhibits depicting Michigan's frontier settlement and stagecoach days between 1836 and 1855. The historic site is open from May through October. Call 517-467-7401 for details.

Recreation - Viewing historical exhibits and touring the grounds is enjoyed at Cambridge State Historic Park. No camping.

Climate - Southeast Michigan is the warmest region in the state with summer temperatures averaging 70 degrees F (above 21 degrees C) but it is not infrequent for days to reach the high 80s. Winter temperatures are warmer as well with averages hovering just below freezing. Yearly moisture amounts range between 18 - 32 inches.

Location - Cambridge State Historic Park is near Brooklyn, Michigan a quarter mile north of the intersection of M-50 and US-12.
