A developed trail carries hikers to the bottom of the gorge, which features the 30-foot flow of water crashing over small ledges. Elevation at the park reaches 1,115 feet (340 meters) above sea level. The state park has little developed facilities. Camping and on-site management is not available.

Nearby are the Escanaba River State Forest and Hiawatha National Forest. Escanaba River State Forest has many multi-use trails available for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The majority of trails are not maintained. Seven lakes on Escanaba offer access via boat ramp launches. A segment of Cedar River crosses the state forest where a carry-in launch provides access. Numerous creeks and streams support modest populations of trout thereby attracting the fly fisher. Primitive camping on the land is permitted. There are no fees / permits associated with using the barren land. A popular wintertime snowmobile excursion begins along the Escanaba River over to Gwinn then into the Bay de Noc State Forest and into Hiawatha State Forest. The massive Hiawatha State Forest boasts 879,000-acres of rolling hills forested with northern hardwoods, white pine and hemlock, and flatlands that are covered by red pine, jack pine and aspen.
