Newaygo State Park is a favorite water sport destination.
Description - Located on Hardy Dam Pond, the 257-acre public park is a favorite water sport destination. Dense woods, rustic overnight facilities, good fishing waters, and easy lake access attract thousands to this Mid Michigan state park.

Attractions - Newaygo State Park offers spacious and wooded rustic campsites. There are no sites directly on the lake. Vault toilets and water are available. No bathhouse. Camping facilities are open April 1 to December 1.

The day use area consists of a small sandy beach. There are only a few short foot trails that are marked in the park. These connect the campground to the lake. For those who enjoy hiking, even though there are not marked paths, one can hike throughout the woods.

Hardy Dam Pond is a favorite water sport destination. Folks use the park's boat launch to access the pond to power boat, wave-run, water-ski, and fish. The stocked pond supports healthy populations of walleye, bass, and yellow perch. Water depths range from a shallow 2-foot depth to a chilly 100-foot depth.

Newaygo State Park holds a tradition Fourth of July fireworks display.

No hunting is allowed within the park, but Newaygo County has a large amount of National Forest land that is available to hunters

Recreation - Outdoor pursuits evolve around Hardy Dam Pond. Folks come to the park to launch boats, water-ski, wave-run, swim, sunbathe, fish, camp, and explore the woods.

Climate - Mid Michigan has warm to hot summers with temperatures climbing above 70 degrees F (above 21 degrees C). Winter temperatures average between 14 and 22 degrees F (-10 to -6 degrees C). Moisture deposited in this region averages between 28 and 36 inches but can be dramatically altered by the "lake effect."
