General Information

Description - Travel back to simpler days when business in Missouri was about the rushing of a stream over a dam and bridges were covered. Visitors to Bollinger Mill State Historic Site can watch corn being ground into meal at the massive four-story mill that dates to the Civil War era and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Or they can stroll through the Burfordville Covered Bridge, one of just four covered bridges that remain in Missouri. The site’s rustic setting offers ample picnicking and exploration opportunities along the Whitewater River.

Attractions - The Bollinger Mill and the Burfordville Covered Bridge are the main attractions at the Bollinger Mill State Historic Site.

Recreation - Recreational activities at Bollinger Mill State Historic Site include historic site tours, interpretive programs and picnicking at the sites scenic picnic area.

Climate - Missouri experiences four distinct seasons with an average yearly temperature of 54 degrees F. Summer temperatures reach 90 degrees F often and are plagued with high humidity levels. Nighttime lows during the summer dip slightly near 70 degrees. September brings cooler fall weather with less humidity. By October nights begin to cool significantly and the fall foliage changes to brilliant hues of orange, red and yellow. Winter months bring an average of 24 inches of snow and normal temperatures average between 20 and 45 degrees F. Spring is characterized by wet weather with temperatures reaching between 32 and 60 degrees F.

Location - Bollinger Mill State Historic Site is located on the north side of Bollinger Mill State Park in the south eastern portion of Missouri.
