General Information

Description - Nanih Waiya State Park is the legendary birthplace of the Choctaw Indian nation and site of their Sacred Mound, Nanih Waiya. The park facilities available are an activity building and a picnic area.

Recreation - The park offers picnicking and viewing historical sites. There is not any camping available.

Climate - Mississippi generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Freezing temperatures are possible in the winter. Thunderstorms and are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Nanih Waiya State Park is located 12 miles east of Noxapater off Mississippi Hwy. 490.

Pines Region - The Pines Region encompasses the east-central portion of Mississippi, with the Alabama border forming its eastern boundary. It encompasses the areas surrounding the cities of Meridian and Columbus, west to Winona and Forest.
Starkville Area - Starkville, in Oktibbeha County, is located in the northeast region of Mississippi. There are many opportunities for recreation near the Mississippi State college town of Starkville, Mississippi.
