Description - Historic attractions include the Tryson Palace and Gardens, The Attmore-Oliver House and Christ Episcopal Church which was established in 1715 and the First Presbyterian Church established 1819. There are a few museums including the Firemen's Museum and the New Bern Civil War Museum. The area has several guided tours including those in historic gardens and during seasonal celebrations. Bed and breakfasts dot the area along with numerous chain hotels and shopping plazas.

Recreation - Recreational outdoor opportunities include the Theodore Roosevelt State Natural Area, the historic Fort Macon, Hammocks Beach State Park, Goose Creek State Park, Croatan National Forest and countless private camping and beach house rentals. Many of these areas offer swimming beaches, fresh and saltwater fishing opportunities, picnicking, camping, hiking and mountain biking opportunities.

Climate - Winter daytime temperatures average above 44 degrees Fahrenheit (7 Celsius). Summer daytime temperatures range from 78 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26 to 27 Celsius). The state has a fairly wet climate with an average precipitation for this area averaging 48 to 52 inches (122 to 132 centimeters).

Location - New Bern is located on North Carolina's beautiful crystal coast nestled between the Neuse and Trent Rivers. It may be accessed from US 70 from the east and US 17 from both the north and south.
