B Everett Jordan Dam And Lake- The 13,900 acre B. Everette Jordan Dam and Lake is one of North Carolina's Army Corps of Engineers projects. The area is located just south of the bustling Raleigh-Durham area providing endless opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Falls Lake- Moments away from the hustle and bustle of the Research Triangle, this 12,000-acre lake and 26,000 acres of woodlands offers fishing, picnicking, hunting, boating, camping, hiking and swimming.
Jones Lake State Park- Picnic under a canopy of old cypress trees or go for a dip in the cool tea-colored lake. Jones Lake is one of the few remaining Carolina bay lakes, the origin of which has long been a subject of speculation and debate. Enjoy the lake while canoeing or fishing, or stay for a while in the tent / trailer campground.
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area- Tranquil fishing coves, clean fresh water, sandy beaches and pristine campgrounds are lie within minutes from the bustling Research Triangle Park.
Kerr Lake State Recreation Area- Whether you are searching for quiet relaxation or exhilarating water sports, Kerr Lake State Recreation Area can fulfill that desire.
Lake James State Park- A visit to Lake James State Park is a wonderful way to spend a day. Lake James offers swimming, fishing, picnicking, hiking and camping.
Lake Waccamaw State Park- Discover one-of-a-kind aquatic animals found nowhere else on earth. The lake is home to the Lake Waccamaw killifish and a number of other unique fish and mollusks. Spend an evening in the primitive campground or enjoy a picnic under stately trees hung with Spanish moss.
Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge- The predominant vegetation type of the refuge is southeastern shrub bog, which is also known as pocosin. This ecosystem is characterized by a very dense growth of mostly broadleaf evergreen shrubs and scattered pond pine. The dominant species of the bottomland hardwood forest are blackgum and Carolina ash, with smaller components of red maple, water tupelo, loblolly pine and bald cypress.
Singletary Lake State Park- For canoeing, swimming, and nature walks bring the group to an area designated for organized camping. Two group camps contain mess halls, kitchens, campers' cabins and washhouses. Our rangers will conduct fascinating nature programs for your group and explain the unique phenomenon of the Carolina bays.
W Kerr Scott Dam And Reservoir- W. Kerr Scott Reservoir is located in the heart of the beautiful Yadkin River Valley in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

General Information

Description - The lakes and reservoirs in North Carolina range from huge reservoirs to small lakes. Many of the lakes are surrounded by campgrounds, picnic areas and trails. Some of the larger lakes have State Parks along their shores while others fall within the National Forest lands. Lake Waccamaw, Kerr Lake, Lake Norman and Fontana Lake offer fresh water recreation in every corner of the state.

Recreation - These lakes and reservoirs offer varying opportunities depending on their size and level of development. Opportunities include boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking and hiking.
