Manzano Mountain State Park
Description - Nestled in the wooded foothills of the Manzano (the Spanish word for apple) Mountains at 7,600 feet, this park is an excellent place for fishing, bird watching, photography, hiking, and cross-country skiing. The park covers an area of 160 acres.

Park amenities include a group picnic shelter and restrooms. Campground facilities at the park include 17 sites, some with electric hookup. An RV dump station is also available.

The park is open year-round.

Attractions - Located in the Manzano Mountains, the park is steward of numerous species of trees. The dominant tree of the area is the ponderosa pine, however alligator juniper dot the landscape. The
Alligator Juniper is named for the checkered pattern on the bark of older trees, which resembles an alligator's hide.

The Manzano Mountains play an important role as a raptor flyway. Some birds may fly 200 miles in a day and several thousand miles in a season. The park has a field checklist available to visitors who enjoy bird watching.

Recreation - Hoof on horse, hike on foot, or cycle on bike into the heart of the Manzano Mountains. Other recreational opportunities include camping, and picnicking.

Climate - Annual precipitation is 14.2 inches. Summer temperatures range from lows around 53 to highs around 86. Winter temps range from lows of 20 degrees to highs around 48.

Location - Manzano Mountains State Park is located in the west- central region of the state, south east of Albuquerque.

Seasonal Information:
Year-round: January 1 through December 31.
