General Information

Description - This northeastern Nevada Region encompasses 7.4 million acres of public lands in Elko County and the northern portions of Lander and Eureka counties. A wide variety of recreation opportunities can be found on these lands and include areas such as the Wildhorse Recreation Area, Wilson Reservoir Recreation Area, Goshute Mountain Watchable Wildlife Area, Zunno/Jiggs Reservoir, etc.

Attractions - The Elko Region supplies various recreational opportunities for visitors to the area. Opportunities exist throughout the district for mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, photography, nature study, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, camping, picnicking, water activities, and viewing wildlife and wild horses.

Recreation - Facilities in this Bureau of Land Management Region include, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, photography, nature study, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, camping, picnicking, water activities, and viewing wildlife and wild horses.

Climate - The area's climate is typical of northern Nevada's desert country. Rainfall is slight, averaging less than 6 inches annually. Clear, sunny skies are the rule, with summer daytime temperatures peaking near 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Location - The Elko Region is located throughout Northeast Nevada. The recreational areas can be supplied by highways 225, 227, 93, and 80.

Nevada BLM Lands - Scattered throughout the state, the Nevada BLM lands range from cliff dominate-river channels, sweeping panoramas from high-elevation pinyon-juniper mountains to stark and expansive white playas, geologic wonders, and wide-open spaces.
Northern Nevada - Often referred to as "Cowboy Country", Northern Nevada is dominated by the Humboldt River which covers over 300 miles. The area has beautiful areas such as the 113,167 acre Jarbidge Wilderness, the 11,000 acre Rye Patch Reservoir, Angel Lake, Battle Mountain and the Ruby Mountains.
