Description - Visitors to the Palisades / Catskill Travel Region find this area filled with spectacular scenic views, tumbling waterfalls, unsurpassed rock climbing, fabulous trout fishing, miles of multi-use trails along with hundreds of campsites, picnic tables and shelters. The area is home to the famous Catskill Park, which has some of the state's best hiking trails and an assortment of other outdoor recreation. Revolutionary War exhibits, world-class resorts, a kaleidoscope of fall mountain ridges, superb downhill skiing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing opportunities are woven throughout the quaint villages and bustling cities.

Attractions - In addition to the Delaware River, reservoirs abound in this region offering unsurpassed fishing, hiking, boating and sight seeing opportunities. The rugged mountains, lush forests, cascading waterfalls and picturesque streams attract millions of visitors each year. Quaint country inns, world-famous resorts, brilliant fall foliage are just a few of the attractions that bring folks to the region. This area boasts as having New York's best rock climbing, a dozen State Parks and five State Historic Sites.

Recreation - Outdoor opportunities in this rich recreation haven include fishing, golfing, Delaware River trips, mountain biking, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing and viewing historic sites such as General George Washington's Headquarters and the 18th century headquarters for Revolutionary War Generals Knox, Gates and Greene.

Climate - The Palisades / Catskill Travel Region experiences average January temperatures above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (around 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt. The central Catskills receive the highest precipitation.

Location - Located in southeastern New York, the Palisades / Catskills Travel Region extends up through Catskill Park and is bordered by the Central and Saratoga / Capital Travel Regions to the west and north, the Taconic / Hudson Valley Travel Region to the east and the state of Pennsylvania to the southwest.
