Description - The northwestern area of New York, known as the Thousand Islands Travel Region is a large landmass with shores bordering the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario and Lake Champlain. Fishing opportunities abound including some of America's best trophy fishing. Small villages, historic lighthouses, and monuments from two wars are found in this area. The Seaway Trail is a well-known travel route between Oswego and Massena, which includes 22 State Parks. Outdoor enthusiasts will find more than excellent fishing opportunities. There is a plethora of opportunity to hike, mountain bike, hunt, picnic, horseback ride, snowmobile and more.

Attractions - Located in northwestern New York, this vast land encompasses nearly 2,000 islands along the mighty St. Lawrence River and with Lake Ontario's massive waters reaching the shore. America's sixth largest lake, Lake Champlain travels along the northeastern fringes of the Thousand Islands Travel Region offering some of the country's best trophy fishing. Rustic fishing villages, ancient lighthouses and Revolutionary War and War of 1812 monuments dot the landscape. This region is also home to the Seaway Trail where 22 State Parks follow the route from Oswego to Massena.

Recreation - Boating, sailing, paddleboating, golfing, hiking, sight seeing, cold and warmwater fishing, swimming, viewing historic sites, camping, picnicking, hunting, snowmobiling and trail riding are enjoyed throughout the Thousand Islands Travel Region.

Climate - The Thousand Islands Travel Region has a varied climate with average January temperatures ranging from below 14 degrees reaching to 22 degrees Fahrenheit (below -10 to -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average between 72 degrees and below 68 degrees Fahrenheit (22 to below 20 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from less than 36 to 40 inches of rain and snowmelt.

Location - Located in northwestern New York, the Thousand Islands Travel Region is bordered by the Adirondack Travel Region to the central east and southeast; the Central Travel Region to the south; Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River to the west; Ontario, Canada to the north and Lake Champlain along the upper northeast area.
